Sensormatic Amends Lawsuit Against Tag Company to Include Trade Secret Violation and Unfair Trade Practices

 28 June 2007

Sensormatic has filed to amend its complaint against the Tag Company and others to include a claim of trade secret violations and unfair trade practices, stemming from the actions of several ex-Sensormatic employees (now affiliated with the Tag Company) in misappropriating valuable proprietary information related to Sensormatic's Ultra•Max® acousto-magnetic (AM) labels for electronic article surveillance (EAS). The new claim was added to a pending law suit that was filed in December 2006 against the Tag Company and Phenix Label Company for infringement of five Sensormatic patents and false advertising regarding the quality and performance of the Tag Company's Series58 AM label.

“Sensormatic continues to partner with retailers by investing in new and unique theft solutions to deliver a strong return on investment. Our customers have relied with confidence on the quality and performance of our AM technology as the best choice in loss prevention," said Scott Clements, Vice President of Tyco Fire & Security’s EAS business. "We are committed to taking strong action to prevent erosion of that confidence and to protect our ability to best serve our customers."
