Revised Policy on Police Response to Security Systems in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

The Association of Chief Police Officers for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland has recently approved a revised policy on Police Response to Security Systems.

NB Some police forces may have implemented a variation of this policy.  Please check with your local authority.

Key changes are:

1.       Hold-up alarms or panic buttons (HUA) systems now only have 2 false alarms; thereafter there must alternative methods of verification.

2.       BS8418 CCTV systems are now included in the policy and will require a unique reference number (URN).  A separate policy will be issued on pre 8418 systems.

3.       Employees from outside the UK now require security clearance from their country of origin or from country they have been working in.  An English translation is also required.

4.       Any new employees with cases pending at the time of application will now be notified to ADT.

5.       Anti-cold calling section is strengthened.

Please remember this applies to England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  Scotland has its own policy.
