Standards

There are a number of standards associated with the design of gaseous extinguishing systems. Some of the more relevant ones are listed below.

BS ISO 14520:2000  - Gaseous fire extinguishing systems – Physical properties and system design

This is the first global standard for gaseous fire extinguishing systems. This standard is split into several parts. Part 1 is generic to all gaseous systems and gives recommendations for the design, installation testing maintenance and safety of gaseous fire fighting systems and the characteristics of the various agents and types of fire for which they are a suitable medium.  The other parts all relate to specific agents.

BS 7273 part 1 -Electrical actuation of gaseous total flooding extinguishing systems

BS 6266 :2002  - Fire Protection for electronic equipment installations

BS 5306-4:2002 - Fire extinguishing installations – CO2 systems

HAG report - A review of the toxic and asphyxiating hazards of clean agent replacements for Halon 1301

Fire Standard D7 - Crown Fire Standard – Automatic Fire Suppression and Extinguishing Systems

BSRIA Application Guide AG 17/2002  - To the integration of gaseous extinguishing systems with other building services
