How the ADT Asset Finder works - ADT UK

How does it work?

1. Asset Finder Unit

The unit is configured to work in two cycles: 'wake' and 'sleep'.

  • Wake mode - the unit is able to communicate with the ADT Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) via the mobile phone network.
  • Sleep mode - the unit is not able to communicate with the ADT Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), but any commands sent to the unit are held in the network and received by the unit as soon as it wakes up.

The Sleep mode is usually 5 hours duration, but other sleep periods can be chosen dependant on the asset being protected.

2. Unit in Alarm Mode

The unit's alarm activation can be caused by the following:

  • Someone attempting to remove the unit  from the asset activating anti tamper facility
  • Direct intervention from the ARC after a reported theft.
  • The unit 'wakes-up' outside its designated GSM 'cell.'

3. Macro Tracking Location (approximate location - within 1 GSM 'cell')

When the unit's status changes to the alarm mode,  it sends a signal to the nearest GSM transmitter.  Once the approximate location is defined, the asset recovery is arranged.

ADT ARC receives information via GSM modem about the macro location of the unit.  This location determines the search area -specially trained Finder Operatives are dispatched to the identified area to locate the asset.

4. Micro Tracking Location (accurate location - to within 1 metre)

Using specialist RF Direction Finder, the Finder Operative identifies the asset's precise location.

5. Asset Recovery

The ADT ARC team contact the client and agree on the asset recovery. If required the police will be called to recover the stolen asset if it is located on private property.
