DD243 - Setting and Unsetting a system

Means of completion setting the system

There are a number of ways that are allowed to set a system. These are:

  • Key operated shunt lock on the final exit door
  • Push button switch outside the premises
  • Door contact on final exit door
  • Portable ACE (Ancillary control equipment)
  • Set in conjunction with the ARC

Means of unsetting

  • Unlocking the initial entry door unsets the system or part of the system.
  • Unlocking the initial entry door disables all confirmation.
  • If the entry timer expires it will be classed as an unconfirmed alarm.
  • Deviation from entry route will be classed as an unconfirmed alarm.
  • Opening the initial entry door will disable all confirmation. If the entry timer expires it will be classed as an unconfirmed alarm.
  • Deviation from entry route will be classed as an unconfirmed alarm.
  • Unsetting from outside the protected area using portable ACE is permitted. (If this method is used the entry door must still be configured with an entry timer)

The intruder alarm system must be configured so that any notification of any alarm and initiation of confirmation time is delayed until expiry of overall entry time. Alarm during entry and/or as a result of the expiry of the overall entry time produce an unconfirmed alarm.

If an unconfirmed alarm occurs it can be designated as audibly or visually confirmed. A sequentially confirmed alarm can take place if two or more independent detectors located off the entry and exit route are activated after expiry of the entry time when using a portable ACE.
