Professional burglars take just seven seconds to decide whether your home is an easy target or not and, once inside, know exactly what they’re looking for. ADT home security spokesperson and reformed burglar Michael Fraser points out the target zones:

1: Study		4: Hallway

vehicle log books passports credit cards file box of statements and paper documents		Grab car and house keys, and handbags – often left within six feet of the front door

2: Bedroom(s)		5: Lounge

Search top and bottom of wardrobe Overturn mattress Empty drawers Check curtains for jewelry		Wedding photos Small electrical items. For example, an iPod or phone
3: Kitchen		6: Front door

Your pet might be mistaken for a pedigree or even, as in the case of some recent celebrity ‘dog-nappings’, make a good hostage		Block front door from the inside to ensure it makes a noise if opened
