Rail Security Case Studies

ADT has completed a number of installations providing complex solutions to major rail security issues.  Below are two examples, for more information please contact the number above.

Underground Train

London Underground - Jubilee Line

ADT has recently won a major contract to protect sections of the London Underground rail network, providing fire and security systems for the bustling transport network.

Security Concerns

Managing the fire and security elements of a network of this magnitude and ensuring the ongoing safety and security of passengers is a major task. Keeping an ageing network operating safely is difficult and as a result, London Underground is embarking on a program to transform the network over the next decade as rolling stock, infrastructure and real estate are revamped and upgraded.

Solutions

ADT is helping to keep London Underground safe by maintaining the fire systems on the busy Jubilee Line. ADT has also provided services for work on the Northern and Piccadilly Lines.  In addition, ADT has installed a fire system at the Stratford Market Depot to ensure the safety of staff and rolling stock.  ADT is using CCTV cameras to detect smoke, which provides instant alarms back to the existing fire detection system.

A contract to upgrade the fire systems at four London Underground stations, Chalk Farm and Tuffnell Park stations on the Northern Line, and Swiss Cottage and St John’s Wood stations on the Jubilee Line, has been completed.

Comments

ADT’s core business is the integration and installation of electronic fire and security solutions for a wide range of applications. However, ADT recognises that rail companies have very particular security and surveillance requirements and in order to help London Underground, and the rail industry as a whole, meet the challenges they face, ADT Rail was formed. ADT Rail is able to dedicate a specific resource and focus to the rail sector, where experienced personnel can provide a tailored service. ” - Mark Formby, Business Development Manager of ADT Rail.

First Scot

First ScotRail

The company is also committed to improving customer information, particularly at times of disruption. With this in mind, First ScotRail embarked on a project to improve the monitoring of activity at all of its stations and to combine that function with a two-way customer information system, designed to improve customer safety, reduce delays and provide information.

A key element of this strategy has been a rolling implementation programme of on-line CCTV surveillance systems and audio “Help Points”, designed to reassure passengers, provide train information and deter crime and vandalism. Pictures from cameras installed at networked stations are digitally compressed and transmitted continuously to First ScotRail-manned Communication Centres, whilst audio links simultaneously provide two-way voice traffic. The scheme has proved highly successful on all counts, according to CCTV Project Manager, Jim Anderson, and with support of the Scottish Government and regional transport partnerships it is expected to be extended from the present 232 Stations to almost 300.
