How do pet-friendly sensors work?
Motion sensors or PIRs (passive infra-red motion sensors) are designed to be tolerant of your pets, ignoring any changes in passive infrared (movement of body heat) at floor level. Our pet-friendly alarms will ignore detection of up to 35kg of weight.
What if I have large or active pets?
There is a possibility that larger pets above 35kgs, or active birds, will trigger an alarm system. An ADT home security consultant will be able to advise you on the most appropriate sensors to match you and your pet’s needs.
Can a dog barking set off my alarm?
Your ADT house alarm will monitor motion, rather than noise. Because of this, your dog barking won’t trigger it.
Is the panel portable, or do I need to have it fixed to the wall?
The alarm panel you’ll receive has a single wire, which runs to a domestic plug socket. You can choose to have your plug socket mounted to a wall, or freestanding on a table or sideboard.
You'll need your panel to set and unset your alarm, so we’d recommend positioning it near your front door. If you need more flexibility, your panel can be paired with up to three IQ remotes to control your alarm from other locations, such as a bedroom or study.
Can I purchase a pet-friendly alarm without monthly monitoring costs?
Each ADT system comes with 24/7 monitoring, 365 days a year. Security is essential to us, and so we build monitoring into everything we do. Find out more about our monitoring plans.
Can I add more cameras to my pet-friendly solution?
Our pet-friendly alarm comes with one Wi-Fi as standard, but more indoor and outdoor cameras can be added as required.
What if I have large or active pets?
There is a possibility that large pets above 35kgs (or birds) will trigger an alarm system when set if your system only has internal PIRs. For anyone with larger pets or those wanting their pets to have free reign of the property whilst the alarm was set, we’d always recommend opting for shock and or break glass detectors sensors on windows. These would detect forced entry when alarm is set rather than the alarm being triggered by internal movement.
