Everything you need to know about our smoke and heat detector
Detecting smoke and heat in your home should be a critical part of any home safety and security solution, whether you live in a busy family home, a flat, or a newly-built property. All ADT’s smoke and heat detectors are monitored which not only means those in the home will be alerted, but we’ll alert the emergency services to a fire in your home almost instantly, even when you’re not there. You don’t need to worry about changing your smoke alarm’s batteries either, your ADT subscription includes maintenance and servicing on your detector as standard.
Our alarms are continuously tested remotely to ensure they’re working, and we can respond to your alarm in just 8 seconds. In the event of a fire, speed and accuracy are critical; we’ll call the emergency services as soon as anything unusual is detected in your home.

Traditional battery-powered alarms beep when they have a fault, which can be disruptive to you, your children and your pets – particularly when the battery powers down in the middle of the night. Rather than beeping to alert you of low battery power, the ADT smoke and heat alarm uses LED lights to let you know if any faults have occurred. The LED lights will flash green every 12 seconds during normal operation, and change colour depending on if you have low battery or your alarm has a problem.

Can I buy a smoke and heat detector as a standalone product?
Our smoke alarm sensor is only available as an add-on product to our monitored home security solutions. We only offer monitored products and services to maximise the protection of your property.
What’s the difference between an ADT smoke alarm and a self-installed alarm?
Unlike self-installed smoke detectors, we don’t just sound the alarm, we answer it. We offer 24/7/365 monitoring, so a warning signal never goes unanswered.
Do I still need to test the battery?
You can leave that to us. We’ll let you know when your battery needs replacing – and with our all-inclusive service plan, you can enjoy free cover for replacement batteries, labour callouts and accidental damage, too.
Do you need to be qualified to install a smoke alarm?
Mains-powered smoke alarms should be installed by an electrician, to make sure everything is wired up safely. Battery-powered units are usually easier to install, but must be configured correctly to make sure they work as they should.
How many smoke alarms do I need in a 2-bedroom house?
Generally speaking, a 2-bedroom property should have a smoke alarm in the living room, one in each hallway or landing space, and another in the kitchen. However, your security solution should fit your home perfectly; we’ll work with you to determine areas of risk, and address any safety or security concerns you might have.
Is a battery-powered or mains smoke alarm best?
There are pros and cons for both battery-powered and mains alarms. Battery alarms are easy to set up, and a great short-term solution. Mains-powered heat and smoke detectors are physically connected to your power supply, and therefore don’t need new batteries over time.
